Orfeo: Postponed

March 2, 2023
Author: PMW

Dear PMW friends and patrons,

It is my regret to inform you that Pacific MusicWorks must postpone our April production of Monteverdi’s Orfeo.

Our board and staff have been working as hard as possible to assure the funding for the large Orfeo project. The end of government relief for Covid times has coincided with donor depression(diminished funds, diminished short-term capacity) such that it became clear to all of us at Pacific MusicWorks that we will fall substantially short of our fundraising goals for April.

For these reasons, and our commitment to our values of sustainability, responsibility, and transparency, we have decided that the best course of action is to postpone this production for the season. At the same time, our mutual ambition to produce Orfeo, both as concerts and a commercial CD is as strong as ever.

We are looking to remount this production in 2024, and are already strategizing our partnership and fundraising efforts for the projectWe recognize the impact this decision has on our esteemed artistic colleagues and are not only planning to have them return for the remount of Orfeo but we are also working to create inspiring and unique programming for each of them in the coming seasons.

“We are disappointed with the necessity of having to postpone these performances and tour of Monteverdi’s Orfeo. We are very grateful to San Francisco Early Music Society for the invitation to perform in the Bay Area, and we are committed to remounting this masterpiece as soon as possible.”

– Stephen Stubbs, Founding Artistic Director of Pacific MusicWorks

While the production of Orfeo is postponed, in its place, we are excited to offer two performances this April 15 & 16 of Monteverdi: Love and Revolution featuring Orfeo artists Danielle Reutter-Harrah, Jason McStoots, Jonathan Woody, and Aaron Sheehan alongside the Pacific MusicWorks ensemble. Please visit the event page for more information. Your tickets to Orfeo will be honored for this concert. Alternatively, you may request a full refund for your purchase.

Please feel free to contact me at: admin@pacificmusicworks.org with any questions.

We are grateful for your support and look forward to seeing you this April and at all future PMW events.

With gratitude,

Julia Benzinger

Managing Director, Pacific MusicWorks
